Had a Skype meeting today with a wedding photographer and we decided to go with them! I'm so excited that Joma Studios is going to do our pictures! We've known these girls for a long time (I went to high school with one of them, and our moms went to high school together) and it makes me pretty excited that I'll be able to feel comfortable with the photographers - nothing like the paparazzi I have to deal with all the time. Just kidding. I'm not Kim Kardashian.
Speaking of Kim Kardashian, I watched her wedding this morning. It was beautiful! I'm not usually much of a crier (ok, let's be honest. I'm more of a crier these days than I used to be.), but I did get a little teary during the episode. She got overwhelmed while she was going through her dad's old shirts and broke down. It made me really sympathetic and I got choked up. It was sweet. I can't imagine not having my dad around for my wedding. That would be something I would never want to have to deal with. Say what you want about Kim Kardashian, but at the end of the day, she's still a person, and she still had to go through her wedding day without her daddy. That's tough.
What else did I do today besides watch TV... Oh. I worked out. Yeah, I've been trying to be consistent! I went to the Fall Festival over the weekend (AMAZING) and so now I'm really into the watch-what-I-eat get-skinny-for-your-wedding routine. Monday I went to an awesome zumba class and also ran a little, yesterday I did a light aerobic and light weight training workout at home, and today I did a lower-body workout DVD. Ok. It's a Kim Kardashian DVD. I can't help it I love her so much! lol I'm not like the crazy people who comment on her blog or show up to her milkshake stand in Dubai (what?!), but I do watch the shows, and I do own her workout DVDs. I appreciate that they're focused on the curvy woman's body - which I have. I love my curves. I just need to tighten them up a little bit, so that when I shake what my mama gave me I don't cause an earthquake. The lower body workout is my FAVORITE! I can never walk the next day, but that means it's GOOD! Jason bought me an aerobic step, too, so now I can do the whole workout!
Now I'm at work, doing my job. Oh, wait. I'm actually blogging, so... Thanks for reading! I'll catch up later :-D

How do you choose?!
So, it's 10 months till the wedding! I'm SO excited! Today The Knot told me a few things that I should be doing 10 months out from the wedding. One such task is start a gift registry. I'll be honest. I'm pretty pumped to go register for gifts! I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Immediately after I read what The Knot had to say, I started browsing kitchen, bed, bath, and home items online. I'll tell ya. It's tough!
How do you decide what you want? Out of all the things in the world, you're allowed to pick a few that you REALLY want people to get for you. How do you know which 32-piece dinner set is right? It has to be timeless and classic, but you also want it to reflect your and your husband-to-be's style. But it can't be too current. Because 10 years down the line, it'll be dated. Do you go square or round? Solid or patterned? Sale or expensive? Bah! So many decisions!
I think I'm leaning towards classic white. lol

Lord, I was borrrrn a ramblin' [wo]man...
I think I'm just going to ramble for a little bit. Why? Because I'm at work, it's 9:45pm, and there's not a lot going on. I'm not in the mindset to craft an eloquent and whimsical blog post, but I want to say some things, I guess. So here goes.
Today I went to Plainfield and did makeup for the models at a Fashion Bug fashion show. I really need a GPS. Yes, those two statements are related. You see, I don't have a GPS currently, and I've been getting along ok without it. In fact, I feel kind of proud of myself when I can travel "old school" with a map and some directions and the basic knowledge of cardinal directions and highways without having to rely on some woman telling me what to do. However. Google Maps just isn't cutting it these days. Today I printed the directions from my apartment to the Fashion Bug in Plainfield. Boy. Am I glad I left early! What was supposed to take about an hour ended up taking about an hour and 45 because I got "lost" a couple times due to faulty directions. AND THEN I got all mixed up trying to get back home, too. So that was pretty tragic and stressful. So I think I'm at the point where I'd enjoy having a GPS. I don't have a fancy phone with a fancy app that will do the trick, and I don't have a fancy car with a fancy built-in GPS system. So, I probably don't need a fancy GPS either. Just one that gets me to and fro. I'd like it for Christmas, please. Anyway, back to the models. So, after I finally found where I was supposed to be, I did makeup on two models. (Jennifer, another Consultant, was there too, and she did 2 models as well.) It was a good time. We didn't have ANY idea what to expect when we got there. Good thing we're flexible! That was my first experience putting makeup ON someone's face. Usually I just give application directions, teaching women how to do things themselves so they can go home and replicate it. But I was better than I thought I would be! It makes me excited to do things like this in the future.
What can I ramble about next... Ah, TV. Jason and I caught up on a TON of TV in the last few days. I'm excited for all the fall shows that are back again! Some new shows that are in my life are: Raising Hope, Up All Night (FUNNY!), and The New Girl. Let me just tell you. The New Girl is totally me. I know, I know... everybody thinks that the main character of a TV show or a movie is "totally them," but I'm pretty serious about this one. I tried not to say anything about it as we were watching the show because I didn't want to be cliche, but after it was over, I said, "Why is she me?" And Jason said, "I don't know, but she just is. :-/" (Yeah. He totally said the slanty face part. With his face.) I hope she proves me wrong during the rest of the series. I hope she's not me, because I see me everyday. I would love to see someone else. Who's that girl? IT'S JESS!
Did I mention how frustrated I was with those horrible directions to Plainfield today? SO frustrated. I wasted a quarter-tank of gas! That's so ridiculous... Ugh. Can't get over it.
So, I picked out my wedding dress! It's the one I loved from the start. I'm just excited that I made a decision about it. It had a little bit of competition with another dress, but then when I tried it on again on a different day, I just forgot all about that other dress. I'm SO EXCITED!! It's so pretty!!! When I went and tried it on yesterday, some random woman in the store said, "Oh wow. That dress was made for you." Totes the right dress. Time to get skinny I guess! The sales associate lady told me that it would take 15 weeks for the dress to come in (because I'm getting extra length put at the bottom so I can actually wear a little bit of a heel). I've got time. I've got motivation. I just need some ACTION! HELP! (It's so hard to be skinny when you're lazy!)
My best friend ran a 5K today. Maybe I should run again. This time last year I was about to run a half-marathon. OK. Run/walk a half-marathon - who am I trying to kid. lol I'd like to get back to that point, if not farther. So... looks like I'll be hitting the gym tomorrow! After church and a Mary Kay party, that is! :-)
I suppose that's enough rambling for now. I've successfully used up 18 minutes of my shift :-) Thanks for reading! You're a champ for reading this whole thing!

Fall is here.
I'm starting to appreciate Fall more. I do enjoy the changing leaves. I like to wear scarves. Also, I like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. I like football games where you have to take a blanket.
However!
Summer is still my favorite. Nothing will ever replace that. I live for the feeling of the sun touching my skin and toasting me on the outside. I think maybe I'm solar powered. I get so much energy and my mood always gets so much better when the sun is shining and I feel its warmth!
But Fall will do. For now.

Boring?
Do you ever wish you were more exciting? That you were the life of the party? Sometimes I wish that.
I'm really great at being a hostess. I am accommodating, a pretty good cook, kind, inviting... but for some reason, when friends come over, I feel like I bore them. I don't know if that's necessarily true, but it sure feels like it sometimes.
I've never been one to "party," but I do love a good conversation, and I certainly love to laugh. Lately, however, I just feel like the only people who appreciate my style of hospitality and friendship are my fiance, my best friend, Marly, and my family. I guess that's really all you can ask for in life. But I sort of always pictured myself as a person who would have friends just bursting from the seams of her little 1 bedroom apartment - always too full of laughter and the warmth of good friendship. And I pictured when I got married that my husband and I would have so many other "couple friends" who would come over for game nights and movie nights.
The last few times I've tried to open my home to other couples and groups of friends, I've just been completely underwhelmed. Usually I end up feeling extremely exhausted after the fact because of all the effort and energy I put into making my home beautiful, preparing the food/whatever, and putting myself into that vulnerable state of being a hostess. Then, when it seems like others just really aren't interested in spending time with you, it's like a big gust of wind just sweeps you off your feet and lands you really hard on your back on the ground. My feelings hurt, my soul hurts, and I just want to curl up and sleep. For days.
Sorry to sound all emo, but this is just how I've been feeling for the last few days. A little disappointed to say the least, and a little hurt and confused to say the most.

Be still.
I think I need to start establishing more quiet time with the Lord. Ideally, I'd love to start each day with a good half hour of devotional and prayer time. I've not had a good devotional time in my life for a long time, and I'm getting to the point where I desperately need it, and it will actually fit in with my lifestyle. I have SO MUCH going on in my life right now. I really need to intentionally be still and rest in the Lord. We talked about prayer in Sunday school this morning, and I felt really convicted to spend more intentional prayer time with God - after all, you need to communicate to actually have a relationship.
My first day of grad school orientation starts tomorrow - including our entrance exams in music history and theory. THANK GOODNESS we get 2 chances to pass the exams. I haven't studied like I should have (surprise, surprise...). I'm doing a little cramming this evening, but I'm not sure it will be enough to pass either or both of the exams. We'll see!
Where has the summer gone?! So, I've got orientation this week, plus move-in tables with work, plus I need to solidify my opera audition aria (and schedule a coaching or two and a lesson), plus I need to get moving with Mary Kay. Also I think I'm babysitting for a couple hours on Friday. AHH. What a week.
On top of that, I'm starting to look at different apartments online for Jason and me to move into when we get married next summer. Ideally I'd like to start setting up appointments to do some walk-throughs as soon as possible. Apartments get rented up really quickly in Bloomington, so the sooner you can sign a lease, the better!
So far the wedding planning has been pretty smooth. We've got a date, a ceremony site, an officiant, some bridesmaids and groomsmen, and a pretty good idea of a photographer, reception site, and a DJ. It's pretty stressful trying to plan a wedding out of town. You have to schedule meetings back to back during weekends. It's pretty challenging. I'm excited for when things will just start falling into place. But I am enjoying it! Planning your wedding with the love of your life should NOT be a stressful and horrible time. It should be so fun and exciting! Aside from the typical stresses, we are managing to find the fun and excitement in it! :-)
Speaking of fun and exciting, have I mentioned before how much I love my job as a Mary Kay consultant? I really do. My goal is to become a Sales Director, which means that I'll have to be working really hard on that this semester as well. I'm definitely going to be praying for a sense of urgency and fearlessness as I approach this next quarter. Taking a month off while I was in San Francisco makes right now feel like I'm starting all over again as a brand new baby consultant! My director and my national director believe in me, and that makes me feel so inspired! I'm so blessed with this career opportunity, and I can't wait to share it with other women. It really can change lives!
That's all for now. Time to continue reading about Notre Dame polyphony and 13th Century troubadour songs. :-/

...two months later...
Well, I'm back from San Francisco! Where to begin, where to begin... I'M ENGAGED!!!!
Back up. Let me tell you about my BASOTI experience before I start gushing about my wonderful fiance and how it all happened and how happy I am. :-) This blog entry first; that blot entry second.
From June 25-July 25, I was in San Francisco, CA participating in the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, which is basically an opera training program for young/emerging-professional singers. It was a FANTASTIC experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything! I sang Susanna in 2 Marriage of Figaro scenes, Zerlina in 1 Don Giovanni scene, and the role of Nora in the full production of Riders to the Sea. When I was preparing for the Riders role, I was REALLY challenged - it is a very difficult piece of music! But after putting it together with the other singers and developing the character with the director, I fell in love with the piece. I feel like I've really accomplished something, and I'm so proud of myself as well as the other cast members - we did it!
Our days at BASOTI typically went like this:
Ms. Wise (my wonderful, amazing voice teacher) was there for the first week of the program. I had 2 lessons with her in that first week, and I am SO grateful! I've started working on a little bit of new repertoire and am loving how my voice is growing and becoming its own. I'm anxious to get started back again in the fall (omg. in 2 weeks.) with consistent lessons.
Although we were incredibly busy the whole time, I was able to sneak in a few "tourist" activities every once in a while. I will share some pictures now of my performances and sight-seeing adventures.

I don't need no stinking title...
This blog post was unplanned. I just feel as though I need to write something.
Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a great weekend! Last weekend was Memorial Day weekend, and it was fun! Jason and I went to Spring Mill on Saturday and met up with my Adam and Amy and Amy's parents. We ate grilled pizza - a new concept, and quite delicious - then we walked through the pioneer village. Adam and Amy brought their little puppy with them, and we had fun watching him play in the stream! He was pretty nervous at first about getting in the water, so Amy gave him a little shove. Once he was in the water, he realized how fun it was! He's very cute.
We also spent some time at Jason's parents' this weekend. We don't visit there very often, so it was nice! Chad, Jason's nephew, had a birthday over the weekend, so we brought a card by the house, and ended up staying for dinner - pizza (this was a very pizza weekend for me). Jason finally got the chance to show me his new motorcycle. It's bigger than I thought it was going to be. Makes me so darn nervous! After the Spring Mill trip on Saturday, we went back to Jason's parents' for Chad's birthday party. Ate some burgers and cake! The cake was awesome! It was a pirate ship - but unfortunately it started falling apart, so it was a 'shipwreck' instead. Tasted good! That's what matters :-)
This week has kind of been a blur to me. I've started really buckling down on my music for BASOTI. I leave in 22 days. omg. I'm NOT ready yet. I've ended up having to download the recording of the opera that I'm in, because I'll never be able to learn it just pounding it out on the piano by myself. It's very dissonant and atonal - not a pretty opera. :-/
Yesterday was my Mary Kay $1000 Day challenge. It ended up being a $303 Day, but that's better than no dollars! My Makeup 101 class that I was so excited about ended up only have 2 guests - but they were great guests! We had a lot of fun playing with color and practicing makeup techniques. I've got 3 more parties schedule for before June 15th - the end of this quarter - so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to reach Star Consultant status by then! That has been one of my goals since I started my MK business. I didn't think it was going to be possible, but I'm seeing now that I'm more capable of greatness than I give myself credit for! I'm looking to add at least 1 more team member by June 30th, too! Let's hope I can achieve that goal, too!
This weekend I have no solid plans. I'm seeing a movie tonight - that new X-Men movie - and that's pretty much it! Jason has a radio station event all day tomorrow. It's a car show. I may stop by, but Idk. I'm hoping I get a lot of practicing done this weekend. Goodness knows I need it!
That's all for now. Ta ta!

Ta ta!

What a week.
This has been a strange week. It was supposed to be a 3-party week, and it ended up being a no-party week. I'm a little bummed in that respect. Let's go back.
So I started the week on Sunday (that's typically how it goes). Sunday morning I woke up in Louisville at Charity's apartment and got myself ready to leave very quietly as everyone else was still asleep. I peeled out of the L around 7:30am in order to make it to Evansville at 8:30 (central time). My drive was OK, until I missed my exit and had to take the next one. It wasn't horrible tho. When I got to church, it was Graduation Breakfast time. Nom nom nom...
After church was over, I went back to my parents' house, applied for a student loan, potted some plants, had my dad vacuum out my car and change my front brakes, and then left for Bloomington. That night, I had the worst sleep of my life. I was woken up several times that night by excruciating pain in my back, neck, shoulder and arm. I've had plenty of back and joint pain throughout my life, but I've never woken up in the middle of the night because of it. Especially not multiple times. Finally around 2:30am, I just couldn't take it anymore. I got out of bed, nearly crying, rummaged through my medicine drawer and found some Advil PM tablets that came as a bonus one time when I bought real Advil. I read the box. Sounded perfect, so I took two and drifted back to sleep.
After a full night's sleep, I woke up,still in pain. I don't really remember what I did on Monday... I didn't have to work, I didn't clean my apartment, I didn't look at any of the music for this summer, and I didn't go to the Monday Night Live MK meeting. Oh yeah. I got my Mary Kay shipment, packaged up everyone's stuff, went to the bank, the post office, and the party store. Then it stormed.
I was feeling pretty weak and awkward on Tuesday. Took my temperature and found that I had a small fever. That explained all my back pain and my chills and weakness. I was supposed to have a Mary Kay party at my house on Tuesday, but only 3 people RSVP'd - 2 of which had to leave early, and 1 of which was a maybe. I canceled that party because I wasn't feeling well, and I knew if would have been unsuccessful. My Thursday party canceled last week, and my Saturday party canceled on Sunday. Aside from the fact that I get paid by TCC on Friday, this was a no-money week for me.
Yesterday was a mess. Have you heard about all the storms in Central Indiana?! Yeah, that was my life yesterday. I slept in my closet on the floor listening to my boyfriend and two of his coworkers on the radio tracking the storms, tornadoes, and damages. At 3:50 this morning I decided that since it wasn't raining, and the IU Alert system texted me an All Clear, it was OK to sleep the rest of the night in my bed.
Today I feel OK. I didn't have a fever last night, but I didn't check it today. I feel ok, except now I have this sore spot in my throat. Also I forgot to mention the ugly poison ivy that I have on my arm. Why am I falling apart?! lol
Here's hoping for a good weekend and an even better next week.
Things that must happen: Copy music, learn music, memorize music; book parties and call contacts; clean my bedroom. Somebody please hold me to this.

Almost done!
Well friends, today at 12:30pm EST I'll be taking my German Diction final and will conclude my undergraduate degree. Whoa. After that, I'm going to go to Hobby Lobby and get some fab decorations for my mortarboard, then tomorrow is GRADUATION!! Can you believe it?!
I get pretty nostalgic and verklempt when I think about graduating. I'm such a sissy these days. Even though I'm not going anywhere (I'm starting grad school here in the fall), graduating is a big deal. I also like to think about how a bunch of people in my family have graduated from IU, and that makes me feel super connected and almost historic. lol
So much has changed in my life since I moved into my dorm freshman year. I think the core of who I am is the same, but I'm in a very different place now than I was then. And I love it. I love the place I'm at right now, and I wouldn't change any of my life experiences for anything!
Here's to the class of 2011! Congrats, y'all! We did it!

Love one another.
I'm just not OK with murder.
I never will be. Taking the life of another human being, no matter how evil, is unacceptable and a despicable act. The slain of Osama Bin Laden has been "justified" because he was an evil man with a terrorist agenda. He was responsible for the murder and death of thousands of Americans after the 9/11 attacks, and he has been a looming threat to our nation's security for the last 10 years. His death prompted a giant sigh of relief from the lungs of America.
But is killing another human being ever really justified? Is it our place to play God and determine who lives and who dies? Is it OK to kill one person in hopes of preventing the murder of others? I just don't know...
My heart is being pulled about 3 different ways regarding this matter.
1. I'm trying to be rational. Human, I guess. The murder of Osama Bin Laden will potentially save lives. He was evil and needed to be stopped. I've heard his murder compared to putting down a rabid animal - not an easy job to do, but one that has to be done for the safety of others.
2. But, Bin Laden was NOT an animal. He was a human being. At one point he was some mother's pride and joy. He was a child of God and someone whom Jesus loved and died for. With his death, he has now been sentenced to an eternity of suffering in Hell. I never wish Hell on anyone. The world is desensitized to the idea of Hell these days, but Hell is serious. I cannot rejoice over someone being sentenced to Hell - against his own will. Had he died on his own that day, Hell would have been his sentence, yes. But that sentence was given to him based on someone else's agenda.
3. Maybe this is God's way of justice? God is love, yet God is also just. Because God is God, I cannot begin to fathom exactly how He works, nor can I predict his next step. Perhaps this was God's way of achieving justice. I just don't know.
Rather than dwelling on what happened, I'm trying to think about how I can respond. There could be so many possible outcomes from the death of Osama Bin Laden. I am praying for peace. I am praying that the people of this world stop playing by the rules of "an eye for an eye" and start playing by the rules of love and brotherhood.
You can't overcome evil with evil, but you can change the world with love.

I believe in second chances.
So, I've been helping a friend out lately with a relationship issue. I won't get into the details because it's pretty complicated, and it was a result of a lot of misunderstanding. Basically everyone surrounding her who didn't know all of the minor details has been telling her to just break up with her boyfriend based on 1 particular situation; but after a 6 hour conversation with her, getting down to the root of the issue, where the misunderstanding happened, who is to "blame," and what made the situation blow up into a huge ordeal, we realized 1 thing: Everyone deserves a second chance.
Our main reasoning for this conclusion was that it is the Christian thing to do. Imagine if Jesus decided not to give all of us sinners a second (or third, fourth, or fifth) chance... We'd be sunk! As Christians, we're supposed to live a life that mirrors the life of Jesus. Jesus built his life on earth based on forgiveness, love, reaching the lost/unpopular/outcasts, and bringing the hope of new life to a world full of people who don't deserve it! It's not our place to judge others or condemn them. We should be willing (even though it is HARD) to forgive them and to give them a second chance.
That being said, it's important to guard your heart. To the world, giving second chances might make you seem weak and like a doormat - letting people walk all over you. But as Christians, we answer to God. And God commands forgiveness. He also commands us to guard our hearts. Giving a second chance doesn't mean pretending like nothing happened. That's ignorant. It means forgiving the person and working with them to cautiously move forward and work to heal the wounds of the past. My friend has set strict standards for herself and her boyfriend for moving forward so that they can maintain trust and respect with each other. If those standards get compromised, then in order to guard her heart from being hurt more, she's got to cut it off. For both of their sakes.
Not everyone may agree with second chances, but in my heart I can't help but give them. I truly believe that is how Jesus calls us to react when adversity strikes us.

I love my job!
I love Mary Kay! I love it so much. I'm so happy I decided to become an Independent Beauty Consultant, and I can't wait until my business takes off!! I have so much fun playing with skin-care products and makeup, and I love the look on a woman's face when she sees herself as beautiful!
Last night, I went out to dinner with a few friends because my friend Lydia was in town from Hawaii! She came back to Bloomington for some of her spring break! She graduated from IU a year and a half ago. It was SO good to see her! I miss her like whoa... It's great to see that's she's living her dream right now - she's working on her Master's in Theater, but she's also performing and teaching all the time! Way to go, girl!
After dinner, we were trying to figure out what to do. There was a bonfire party that we were considering going to, but it was cold, so that didn't really sound appealing to any of us. We didn't want to go dancing, because there was probably a $5 cover, and none of us really wanted to spend anymore money. So, I had the genius idea of inviting the girls back to my place for facials! Can you say impromptu Mary Kay party?! It was so fun!
Lydia, Jenny, and Liz came back to my place, and I introduced them to the Mary Kay Miracle Set, and we also did the Dash Out the Door look! The girls looked so fresh and gorgeous! I was most excited for Liz. She doesn't wear a lot of makeup, and she's not used to seeing herself that way, but she was really intrigued by the cream eye shadow! And it looked GREAT on her! I'm hoping to meet up with her later next week and have a color session!
Most women don't spend enough time taking extra care of themselves and feeling good about what they see in the mirror. True beauty starts on the inside, and when your outside matches how you feel, you can conquer the world! I love providing women the opportunity to pamper themselves for FREE, even if it's only for an hour! They deserve it!
I don't care what happens in my future. I just know that Mary Kay is something that I want to bring along with me wherever I end up. This is the best job I've ever had! :-)

My, oh my how time slips away! It's been far too long since my last blog, and sadly, I see this becoming a trend. Hopefully I can nip this in the bud pretty soon and get back on my blogging horse! What have I been up to...
Faust is over. It was a great run! I had so much fun being in the show, and I especially enjoyed the girl time in the chorus dressing room! We all looked so goofy in our 1930s wigs and our drag queen makeup... But we loved every minute of it! (If you don't count the headaches and the itchy scalps from the wigs!)
My senior recital is Sunday. Ahh!! This semester is almost, over. I'm about to graduate with a bachelors degree in Vocal Performance, and I still don't know what I want to do with my life! lol I mean, yeah, I want to sing. But exactly how I want that part in my life, I'm not quite sure. Thank goodness God gave me a "go with the flow" kind of attitude. I'm really open to whichever direction His will sends me! I'm blessed because I got accepted into a summer opera program in San Francisco for a month this summer! It's the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute program. And I got a role in a full production opera! That's so great! Hopefully this will be one of those life-changing summers where I either realize that I can't live without opera or that it's really just not for me. I DO love it, though. We'll just see what happens! I auditioned for IU grad school for a Master of Music, but I haven't heard back yet. I have a hunch that I didn't get in - it's REALLY competitive. But, you never know till you know! So, until I hear the official word, one way or the other, my future is still undecided. If I get in, then great! I'll be in school for the next couple years. (Wait. That IS great, right?...) If I don't get in, then I'll work, make a little money, continue taking lessons, pray a LOT, and try to figure out what that next big step is! I'm not really worried. Either way, my life is in God's hands - and I'll always be able to sing. Singing is what brings me joy. Not necessarily all the other stuff that surrounds it. It's comforting to know that the creator of the world holds my future in His hands and that I really don't have to worry about every little tiny step I take. As long as I'm seeking Christ, and living my life to be like Him and to serve His people, then I'm doing the right thing!
Speaking of serving people, I've just begun a new part-time career (YES! A career - something that I can work at for the rest of my life, that I enjoy, and that I can take with me wherever I go!) with Mary Kay Inc. as an Independent Beauty Consultant! I am the MOST excited about this opportunity! I don't think of it as a job (sure, the money will be nice), but I think of it more as a way to reach women, to communicate with them, empower them, and build their self-esteem! Mary Kay is not just about lipstick! It's about growing as an individual, putting your faith first, and taking care of our bodies! I am learning so much already, and I've only technically been a consultant for about a week now! I am so lucky to have Paula Kirkpatrick as my Sales Director. I know Paula through church camp - from counseling her girls at camp and having her parents as the camp managers for several years! Paula is a woman after God's own heart, and she truly uses her Mary Kay "job" as a ministry. That is where I want my business to go. I don't want it to be about me, or the makeup, or the profit, but I want it to be about changing lives and bringing women together through the Holy Spirit. But I do love the makeup and the parties :-) I am SUCH a girlie-girl!
I think that's enough for today. Please pray for me! Pray for my ministry through Mary Kay, pray that God will lead my steps and determine my future and give me peace of mind, and pray that my recital will be fulfilling on Sunday! Thanks for reading!

Happy February
Well, it's officially been 1 month since I've blogged. Woopsies! Where has the time gone?! I guess I'll do a little updating.
Big fat losers...
I'm playing a real-life version of Biggest Loser with some of my friends and family! It's been going pretty well, so far! I've lost 5lbs with pretty little effort. We're going based on % lost since everyone is starting at different weights. We weigh in on Fridays, and it's $2 per person per week ($3 if you gain that week!) for 17 weeks, and the winner (or loser, if you will) wins all the money!! So far, Marly is kicking everyone's butts! She's awesome! She's lost like 10 lbs in the past month. I'm so proud of her! (I'm a wee bit jealous, too, but I'm mostly just proud of my best friend!)
I've been keeping track of my daily caloric intake and exercise with a website called Lose It!. It's also an iPhone app, but I don't got no monies for fancy phones like that. This website is great! You can have friends on there like Facebook, and you can keep each other accountable and check each other's progress. It's really fun, and it's really helping me lose weight just by giving me a visual image of what I put into my body and what exercises I do to burn calories. If you want help losing weight, this is a great site to get started with!
"Je ne veux pas valser"...
I'm in the opera chorus for Faust this semester. It's been going really great! We had all of our musical rehearsals last semester, and now we've been doing staging rehearsals. I love it very much. It makes me miss being in theater back in high school, and it makes me really excited for a possible career in opera :-) My friend Rachel got one of the leads, and I'm so proud of her! She's singing the role of Siebel (a teenage boy), and she's rocking it out! I can't wait till we get to dress rehearsals so I can see her do more!
My favorite scene that we've staged so far is the waltz scene because... well, we get to waltz. That should have been pretty self explanatory. lol My waltz partner is great, and we have a lot of fun dancing! Also, I get to have my little moment on the front of the stage with Siebel trying to get him to waltz with me. But he's a chicken (see this section's title). I'm excited to see what our costumes are for this production. It's a new production, and it's set in the 20s in Germany. Hopefully I get to be pretty ;-)
She works hard for the money...
I've applied for the administrative assistant position at the job I currently work for. I've been wanting to do this job for a while now, but up until this point, I've never had a class schedule that would allow me to work during day shifts. I've been trying to get an interview, but that has been difficult. We had Icepocalypse 2011 this week, which postponed my originally scheduled interview, then I submitted my availability for the next few days, then I was given an interview time that did not fit my availability, and now I've again submitted my availability for the next week. HOPEFULLY something will work out, and they'll be able to squeeze me in for an interview. I'm not sure if any of my other coworkers applied for the job, but I do feel like I am qualified for it and that the administrators would benefit from my assistance. :-D
Cross your fingers that an interview time works out and that I get this job! The pay is the same, but the job is very different - more along the lines of something I could actually use in my future. (In case you didn't realize, I have no desire to be any kind of technology consultant... like, ever... even tho I'm kind of good at it.)
Icepocalypse 2011...
As I mentioned before, we experienced Icepocalypse 2011 in the midwest this past week. It was tragic. Everything - I mean, everything - was covered in about a quarter inch of solid ice. Made walking, driving, scraping your car, EVERYTHING really difficult. IU classes got canceled for about a day, which should tell you something.
Yesterday we had a pretty nice day. It was cold, but it wasn't freezing. Most of the ice was melted. Except, however, there was some black ice behind my car yesterday morning as I was headed to my first class, and ZIIING! I wiped out. Pretty hard, too. Day one of Icepocalypse 2011 I wiped out, too, but it was just funny and not painful. Yesterday's wipeout was a little more tragic. The first time I had my hands full, so I just fell straight down. Yesterday my hands were free, so of course out of instinct, I tried to brace myself and ended up with really sore, asphalt-filled hands. :-( And also 2 people saw me and asked if I was ok. I was. It did give me an opportunity to bond with a girl who had also fallen twice. lol Good times.
This kind of phrase was pretty common this week, "I walked out of my apartment, fell twice, turned around and went back inside. No way am I going to class/work." I don't blame them.
It's currently blizzarding outside. Awesome. #sarcasm

Bye Bye Bacon Frittata
Last night, as I was working, I rediscovered Hungry Girl. Hungry Girl is a woman, not a nutritionist, who loves food but fights the same battles as basically everyone in the world who loves to eat but doesn't want to eat themselves crazy. She offers low calorie recipes and tip and tricks to help you stay on track. As I was browsing through the contents of one of her cookbooks, there was a recipe for a frittata that seemed interesting. I perused a couple of online recipes looking for low fat, low cal frittata recipes, and I got the jist of how to create a healthy, delicious frittata.
So I did! This morning for breakfast, I created what I call the Bye Bye Bacon Frittata. And let me tell you, it was so good! And I didn't feel guilty eating it. It was full of veggies (green peppers, red peppers, cucumbers, onions), and I used reduced fat cheddar cheese. To cut back on cholesterol, I only used 1 whole egg, and just the whites from the rest.
The catch was the bacon. I called it Bye Bye Bacon because I had 5 pieces of bacon left in my fridge. Now, if I'm trying to lose weight and eat healthier, I don't think bacon should be part of my meals. At least not much. So, this was my farewell moment with the bacon that I dearly love. I spent a long time debating how I could possibly fix something with bacon and not have it full of fat, so I thought - "Why not just take out all the fat?" So I did. I tenderly snipped off ALL the fat from the bacon with kitchen shears, AND then I cooked it on a George Foreman grill, so that squeezed out even MORE greasy fat.
Here's the recipe and a couple pictures. It was very delicious, and one serving was JUST the right amount!
Ingredients:
4 egg whites
1 whole egg
2/3 cup water
1/2 a green pepper
1/2 a red pepper
1/4 cup sliced cucumber
1/2 an onion
1/4 cup reduced fat shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 tsp each salt, pepper, and garlic powder
Bacon pieces (I used 5 slices)
Preheat oven to 375. Grease a small baking pan (I used a 8x8ish pan). Slice bell peppers into strips, slice cucumber (then I halved the slices), and set aside. Chop onion and sautee in water until tender. Place all the vegetables in the pan. Trim the fat from the bacon, and cut the bacon meat into half-inch strips. Cook on a George Foreman-like grill to remove more grease and fat. Add the bacon to the pan with the vegetables. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese in the pan. In a bowl, combine the egg whites, the whole egg, and 2/3 cup water. Add in salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and whisk until fluffy. Pour the egg mixture over the vegetables and bacon in the pan. Cook for 30 minutes. During the last 2 minutes, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the frittata and let it continue to cook. When done, slice into quarters and serve!
Makes 4 servings. Add a tablespoon of salsa for a little bonus!

Happy New Year, Friends!
2010 has come and gone, and 2011 is looking bright as ever! My New Year's Eve was spent in my apartment with Jason. I fixed us a DELICIOUS meal of chili, veggie pizza, and corn bread. It was my first time making chili, and I think it was pretty successful! (Jason's really particular about how he likes his chili, and we don't completely see eye-to-eye. He thought mine was pretty good for a first try!)
I ended 2010 very happily. I got to spend about 2 weeks at home with my family and friends, got to rest a LOT, and got some great Christmas gifts! My apartment is still not all put back together yet - there are boxes of this, and gift bags of that still laying around in places, along with my still full luggage. Woops! But as I rang in the new year, guess what happened. Again. Jason fell asleep. He was sick - AGAIN - during the holiday, and so I just said Happy New Year to myself :-/ But that's ok! I'm not sad about that. People need to rest when they're sick. He's better now, thanks to off-brand Pedialyte.
On the morning of January 2nd, however, something tragic happened. I woke up late for church that morning, so I had to rush to get ready in a jiffy, since I was singing with the praise team that morning. I showered, did my hair and makeup, and went to throw on some clothes. As I was pulling on my dress pants, I realized something very sad. They didn't go up. They just didn't! About a year and a half ago, I took those pants in about 2 inches because they were too big for me, and at this particular moment, they were too small!! So, hastily in my hurry, I ripped that stitching out in desperation - I needed to wear pants! As I pulled the stitching out, the reality hit me - I've gained about 15 pounds. That's a lot of pounds. I've been in denial of this, and I've sucked my belly in, and I've strrreeeeetched my jeans out before putting them on. That morning, the reality of how much my weight gain is affecting me became real.
So I'm doing something about it. That afternoon, I got home from church and wrote out my New Year's Goals. I don't call them resolutions. That seems to intimidating to me. I call them goals because they're something that I'm working towards. Here are my 2011 goals:
*Drink more water.
*Take your vitamins.
*Eat healthier.
*Do something active every day.
*Practice. Seriously.
*Pray like you mean it.
*Keep a clean house.
*Save more. Spend less.
I'm very satisfied with my goals. I believe they're practical and worthwhile. So far, I've been doing OK with them. Hopefully with diligence and prayer I'll be able to accomplish these goals and have a happy, healthy, successful year!!
I wish you all a blessed new year, and I hope that you work hard to keep whatever goals you're working towards!

No Title
I went to dinner tonight with Jason and a bunch of the IU Cinema folks. Jason does a podcast for the Cinema with his friend, Andy, and the Cinema director. It was a really fun time! We ate at FARM on Kirkwood. I'd never eaten there before, but I'd heard of it plenty. It's pretty cool! All the food they serve is locally grown or raised. I really enjoy eating in places like that because I feel like I'm helping out the economy! You're welcome, America!
What I really enjoyed about tonight was that I got to get a little glimpse into Jason's world. He and I talk all the time, of course, but when he talks about the Cinema, I never really understand... Now that I've met some people and learned a little more, I feel like I can really appreciate all the hard work he's putting into this project! I'm so proud of him!
I got pretty dressed up for this evening. I'll admit, I was probably a little overdressed, but it's whatever. I looked good. :-P It's not very often that Jason and I are invited to fancy dinners or outings, so of course I made it a point to make sure I could go to this one. I had a friend mention over the summer that she wanted to be with a guy who would take her to black-tie affairs. (First of all, that's hilarious because she was dating a guy in radio...) This was the closest we've gotten to that, besides a wedding or something. I loved it!
I can see the sparkle in Jason's eye when he talks about films. It really is a passion of his. If someday, he would want to go back to film school, I would TOTALLY be supportive of that. And at the same time, when he talks about his job now, and his responsibilities and how far he's come, and can see that he sits a little taller and talks a little louder - he's proud of himself! As he should be!
I've been thinking a lot lately about what my future holds after I graduate. Probably because I just finished up this semester and I only have one more semester until I graduate. The other night at a Christmas party, one of my friends said that everyone needs to write out their life goals. Whatever they may be. I don't think I'm to the point right now where I can definitely write out a set of goals... I've never been the kind of person who is so focused on having a good career or making a ton of money or whatever. I want a family and a happy life. Whatever that may be.
I kind of forgot where I was going with this blog... Dang.
In other news...
Marly and Jase are engaged!! He proposed on Monday morning! He was going to wait until Christmas, but he just couldn't do it! I'm so excited for them. Marly's been wanting and waiting to get married for such a long time, and now here it is!! They're thinking probably April 2012. I can't wait! :-)

I might get your heart racing in my skin tight jeans...
There's a lot on my mind this evening. I'm at work, so consultant evaluation forms are kind of clouding my thoughts a bit, but I do have some pretty good stuff moving around in my brain right now that I just KNOW my blog needs me to put on it.
Buckle up, world.
My IU grad school application is in. It's done, finally. $135, a TON of stress, and a frantic 30 minute panic attack later, I've officially applied to grad school. Yeah, I only applied to IU. Some people might not think that's a good choice, but it's my choice. And I'll deal with the consequences or the benefits. Where I'm at in my life right now doesn't put me in a position to go to any other school. My first reason is location. That's the honest truth. It might seem lame, but I don't really care. My LIFE is in Bloomington right now. I live here, I work here, I have friends here, I have a boyfriend here. It's not merely the town where I go to college. I don't want to uproot. I'm a midwestern girl. I grew up in Indiana. I know the southern part of this state pretty darn well. My family is just a couple hours away in case I ever needed to be home for something. It just works, and I like that. Also, I love my teacher. Ms. Wise is awesome. I'm resistant to changing teachers because I've made such progress with Ms. Wise. She and I speak a lot of the same language, and she has a way of teaching that really connects with me. I'm sure I'd do fine with another teacher, but when I think about having someone new, I can't help but think about what I would be missing. The last reason, and probably the biggest issue, is the fact that it costs so much money to just apply to schools. Frankly, I just couldn't afford it. I'm going to be in enough debt when I have to get my own loans and start paying for my own school and rent (yes, I currently have a pretty good situation where my parents still pay for a lot of my "cost of living," for which I'm very grateful) that I certainly don't need to get a credit card and start charging things like money is fake. Money isn't fake. It's very real. And I really don't have a lot.
Charlie Grable passed away on Monday morning. Charlie was a dear friend to all of us at First Baptist Church. He had been suffering with his health for a little while. While his death won't be easy for us all to handle, especially his wife, kids and grandkids, we all know Charlie's in a better place now, and he's free from pain. He's back to his old self again, probably cuttin it up with the best of them up there! We're all sure going to miss him.
Thanksgiving was last week. I love Thanksgiving. It's a great holiday where we step back and take a look at all of the gifts God has blessed our lives with. I have such a blessed life. God has given me a great family, wonderful friends, a caring and loving boyfriend, a shelter over my head, enough money to get by, food to eat, shoes on my feet, an education, and a job. I sure don't say thank-you to God nearly as much as I should. He gets all the credit. I'd have nothing without Him. The Thanksgiving celebrations at home were much smaller this year. Not everyone could make it in town, but those of us who were together had a great time! It's so good to see family and to spend time with loved ones.
And with Thanksgiving comes overeating. And with overeating comes large Becky. That's what I am. Right now, I'm so large. I'm the largest I've been in my life. My friend Heather posted on her facebook that she feels like herself only in a fat suit. That's EXACTLY how I feel right now! I feel the same as I normally do, just a little squishier and thicker. Not cool. The problem is that I legitimately do not have enough time to eat healthily or to exercise regularly. Next semester, however, this will be a different story. If all goes as planned, I should have enough time to dedicate to regular exercise and a healthy diet. No more McDonald's meals because I don't have time for anything else. Plus that's such a waste of money. Bluh. I want to get back to where I was last year this time. And overall, I just want to feel good. I don't feel horrible now, but I am frustrated. I want to not be frustrated.
Where have jeggings been all my life?! I bought my first pair of jeggings on Black Friday 2010 (aka the best Friday in the universe), and I LOVE them!! They're perfect! They're just skinny jeans that you can actually move in! You can't get more perfect than that. Skinny jeans are great for wearing with boots, but they are so darn restricting! These jeggings (or jeggins as Charity lovingly refers to them...) are just what the doctor ordered! If I had more money (which I most certainly don't...) I'd go right to the store and buy a few more pairs! Want to know a secret? I've already worn these jeggings 4 times in the last 5 days. Woops? Maybe.
I'd like to start a youtube series of myself singing Katy Perry songs in opera voice. There. I said it. That's what has been on my mind the most. lol It could be hilarious. Her songs are so ridiculous. Why not sing them like they're serious and operatic?! Duh. Stay tuned, world.
